A Linear Score in an Interactive Medium: The Music of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Wednesday November 20, 2024 11:30 - 12:30 CET
Doing justice to an epic story, told in the cinematic universe of Avatar, presented the music team at Massive Entertainment with a huge challenge. How can an interactive game fulfill the expectations set by the popular films?
In the presentation Lasse will demonstrate how the team implemented the Pinar Toprak’s beautiful score for the highly realized narrative campaign of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which not only supports the moment-to-moment action on screen, but also enhances the mood and the narrative by highlighting both the player’s and main character’s emotions and expectations.
Outside of the narrative campaign, Lasse will show the extensive music system used to make the open world music feel scripted, deliberate, and cinematic, despite the complete lack of linearity in gameplay.

Game Developer First
Wednesday November 20, 2024 16:30 - 17:30 CET
We are all game developers first – working outside a strict discipline delineation model.
Working within a philosophy where your discipline is your area of craft expertise but not the only reason you are in the room.
Where we work closely together as developers and players and how this model of working has grown out of my long experience in audio.
As audio people we work in depth with every other discipline and gain a deep understanding of both the player experience and the process of working in game development.
