Heilung at Roskilde Festival: Crafting an Immersive Concert Experience
Thursday November 21, 2024 11:30 - 12:30 CET
Join Robert Borg from Sonic College and Christopher Juul from Heilung as they explore the intricate process behind the creation of one of the most immersive and unique concerts at Roskilde Festival 2024. Robert, a student at Sonic College who has spent the last three years studying and working with immersive concert sound, will be joined remotely by Christopher, who is currently on tour with Heilung. Together, they will discuss how the band, known for blending ancient rituals with modern soundscapes, partnered with Meyer Sound to transform their live performance into an immersive, spatial experience using the Spacemap Go technology.
The session will feature in-depth insights into how Heilung’s otherworldly sound—rooted in Iron Age history and amplified through experimental instruments—was adapted for a large-scale audience in the Arena tent. Christopher and Robert will also highlight the challenges and solutions they encountered while pushing the boundaries of concert sound design.
With sound examples from the performance and reflections on the future of immersive concerts, this session is perfect for sound engineers, music students, and anyone curious about how technology can elevate live performances. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from two innovators in immersive audio.
